About Theatre Lab
Launched in 2021 as a 5-week programme, Theatre Lab has been developed with young men in the protection hall in HMP YOI Polmont into an ongoing weekly group. Meeting every Thursday morning in Studio 2, the group works together to create and perform original shows based on their own ideas.
In 2024, Theatre Lab created Winner Winner, an extraordinary awards ceremony celebrating the things we love most, made especially for their families. Their first full production Play the Game, was performed in May 2025 and explored what it means to compete, to be on a team, what it feels when you win, and when you don’t.
The was followed by The Sounds, performed in March 2026 to an audience of family, friends, justice and arts colleagues. The Sounds explored how music gives people a voice and shapes identity, how it brings people together, andwhat it means to speak or sing in a world full of noise.
The group is currently led by artists Holly Worton and Margot Conde Arenas.
